For some reason Ford removed it. Had to take the car on to a Ford dealers to see if it required and up date. EM light remained on until update.
Simple DIY how to: Remove, inspect, and replace the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve on a Ford Duratec HE or Mazda LF engine. EGR valves get dirty over time along with the rest of the
The picture above shows a common, vacuum-operated EGR valve, and its general location. Notice the vacuum line on top of the valve. Besides a vacuum line, an EGR valve may connect the exhaust and intake manifolds through a pipe as in the picture below.
The main components of EGR systems are EGR valves and EGR coolers. Exhaust gas recirculation ( EGR) is a NOx emission control technique applicable to a wide range of diesel engines from light-, medium- and heavy-duty diesel engines right up to two-stroke low-speed marine engines. It is the EGR valve 100%! I had Identical symptoms with my 2011 Ford Kuga Diesel 2.0 litre 6-speed manual box 100,000 miles, making joining fast traffic very risky and overtaking a true nightmare. It all started after a cambelt change but turned out to be red herring and had nothing to do with this- just a coincidence.

No warning lights or engine management lights now. The Kuga feels alot smoother and has alot more grunt since the DPF was cleaned out.
